New Delhi: In an attempt to improve the speed and reliability of the Railways data network, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has directed Railways to develop a data link for passenger trains with the latest P25 technology.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the Rail Infrastructure and Transport Development Authority (RITDA), which is in charge of establishing the data link, will issue guidelines on the technology and procedures soon.
The P25 standard is a new technology that allows for more data transfer speeds.
It has been widely used in telecoms and e-commerce.
According to the company that is developing the technology, the system will allow data transfer rates between passenger trains at speeds up to 200Mbps.
According, the data transfer speed of P25 is 200Mbps, which is the same as the fastest speed of a 3G network.
Railways is also working on an alternative for data transfer of data from data-enabled trains.
RITDA has recommended that an alternate data link be established between the railway and the railway office for data collection and transfer.
The data link would enable passengers to check the status of their trains using a smartphone app and send data to the railway via a dedicated data connection.
According the company, the new data link will enable data transfer from data enabled trains to data-less trains.
The app will provide an interactive dashboard of the data that the train is receiving.
The company has also asked for additional information from railway personnel to track the progress of the trains on the data connection and inform the railways on any incidents or issues.
